I love those dipping oils served with bread in restaurants to tide you over before your meal comes. I became inspired to make my own dipping oil from the food chapter of Thrifty: Living the Frugal Life with Style and went in search of a recipe to make my own. Here’s a basic recipe from eHow .
- 1/2 Cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 1/2 Tsp Oregano
- 1.2 Tsp Basil
- 1/8 Tsp finely chopped Garlic
Use this recipe as a guide and adjust the amount of flavors to your taste. This recipe amount can be put in a small container. I kind of mixed everything by eyeballing it and seasoning to taste. You can use Italian seasoning instead of oregano and basil on their own and if you don’t have (finely chopped) garlic on you, you try garlic powder instead for garlic flavor.
This oil can be used for more than just dipping, it can be used to cook with too and give your food interesting flavors. I think if put in a pretty or funky bottle, it would make a great gift as well. Enjoy. 🙂
